The Ford Mustang is one of the longest production run muscle cars ever built. Debuting back in 1964 with a small six-cylinder engine, it quickly became one of the hottest cars on the planet. Six generations later it’s still being produced. The “muscle car” Mustangs didn’t appear until 1969 with the Mach 1, Boss 302 and the big boy the Boss 429 that had a rumored 500hp. Ford had no other choice then to start using more powerful engines if they stood a chance at competing with all the other high-performance vehicles available.
