Mercury produced the Cyclone from 1964-1971 and was originally intended to be a performance model for the Mercury Comet but later the name Comet was dropped. In 1970 they decided to make a performance model of the Cyclone and call it the Cyclone Spoiler. It featured more aggressive styling including functional hood scoops for the ram air induction. Under that mean-looking hood was usually the 429 Cobra Jet motor which was the most powerful engine in Mercury’s lineup.
