1. Alcatraz

On August 11, 1934, the Federal Bureau of Prisons opened a prison in the bay of San Fransisco, Alcatraz. That was less than a year after the end of Prohibition, December 5, 1933. By that time, the prisons of the United States overflowed with criminals from the years of Prohibition. Alcatraz would serve as a place to put the worst offenders of the law, which included many famous bootleggers. Top of the list was Al Capone, but many others need their lives on that island. The first prisoners arrived via train, which was strapped to a ferry. Authorities weren’t taking any chances.c
