Because many still operated under the assumption that women were the champions of Prohibition, women became great mules for booze. A baby stroller made a good place to stash a ton of booze. A woman could walk her booze delivery right past the cops without them batting an eyelash. Other women stashed the booze right on their person, wearing customized clothing and sashes. “The most popular refuge picked by the woman for contraband booze is the pocket hidden beneath her skirt,” reported the Boston Globe in 1922. “A properly tailored dress will secrete a number of bottles about the person without the hazard of clinking glass or gurgling nozzles.”
