23. The Studio Rejected The Movie Until Chevy Chase Was Cast

There isn’t a person today who hasn’t heard of Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield, but back in 1980, nobody knew who they were. Neither were famous actors. Caddyshack was Dangerfield’s first major film, and the only major work Murray had done was Saturday Night Live. The studio wasn’t happy with the casting choice, and so the producers were forced to cast big-name actor Chevy Chase as character Ty Webb so the studio would agree to make the film.
