Charlton Heston
Late in life, this former silver screen gunslinger served as the head of the NRA. As an actor, he carved his reputation from roles in famous movies, “Ben-Hur,” and in “The Ten Commandments.” Heston enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1941, when the U.S. joined the World War II fight. He was a radio operator and a gunner on a B-52 Mitchell. In March 1946, after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Army discharged Heston along with many other service people.
