These 25 Actors Who Turned Down Huge Movie Roles

Josh Hartnett as Superman

Movie: Superman Returns (2006)

Played by: Brandon Routh

At one time, Hartnett was the name every writer wanted to be attached to her script. Then Hartnett’s career went off the rails. He did himself no favors by turning down some career-saving roles, including Spider-Man, and something in the Christopher Nolan film, “Batman Begins.” “…somehow knew those roles had potential to define me, and I didn’t want that,” he told Details magazine. “I didn’t want to be labeled as Superman for the rest of my career. I was maybe 22, but I saw the danger.” Hartnett has stayed busy but has yet to see another breakout year like he had in 2001.
