What’s in the box? Well, it’s not a Bluray of Se7en with Denzel Washington in the lead. This is one case where the final result might have been a better movie, but the dynamics of the characters would have shifted a lot. As it turned out, the relationship between Mills, a younger white detective, with his more venerable black partner played by Morgan Freeman made for subtle but interesting layers. Washington would come regret his choice. He told Entertainment Weekly, “They offered me the Brad Pitt part, but I was like, ‘This is so dark and evil… then, when I saw the movie, I was like, ‘Oh, shoot.'”
