In a brief scene where Gump visits Washington DC, just after his tour in Vietnam, he talks to a reporter. The man who played that reported was not an actor, but he wasn’t a real reporter either. He was a tourist from Atlanta, Georgia, visiting the capitol with his wife. Zemeckis threw the man a script and he memorized the lines, then stepped into the role.
