The 1979 Toyota Pickup, The First 4×4 Toyota in the U.S.

The Toyota pickup, or Hilux depending on where you are, became the first truck to drive to both the North and South Poles, One of which was shown on TV’s former Top Gear Hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May. They drove a modified version of the Hilux all the way to the north pole and then May later used another Hilux, that also went on the North Pole Journey but was used as a camera vehicle, to drive up to the base of an active volcano. But the most famous story of the Toyota pickup, also happens to be from the old version of Top Gear, was when Jeremy Clarkson did everything in his power to kill a Hilux Diesel, set it on fire, left it underwater getting destroyed by sand and waves for 6 hrs, smashed it with a wrecking ball, and finally set it on top of a semi tall building that was about to get demolished by controlled explosives, detonated the building and the Hilux fell to the ground appearing to have killed. But with just a few basic tools and no spare parts ( the rules of the challenge) they were able to drive the old girl into the studio and although it clearly looked rough and was barely running, it was still moving under its own power. Even after more punishment than newly licensed teenage boy with two lifetimes could produce.
