The World’s 25 Creepiest Abandoned Military Bases Will Give You The Willies

11. Fort Ord: California

In California, near Monterey Bay, the U.S. Army constructed Ford Ord during World War I as an ideal location for military training. It’s vantage on the Pacific sea, sweeping hills, and perfect climate made for an idyllic home. The small camp expanded during World War Two, but after that war, much of the old structures fell into disrepair. They closed the fort in 1994, converting it for civilian use, but many of the structures remain. The site has since become a great nature reserve, home to endangered species of butterflies and flowers.
