When AMC decided to make a low-priced muscle car version of its semi-popular mid-size car known as the Rebel. The Rebel was only produced for roughly three years and the high-performance performance model known simply as the Machine was only produced in 1970. It was the only model to have the 390 cubic inch motor, which was also the most powerful engine in AMC’s lineup.
