19 Actors Who Made Insane Physical Transformations For Their Movie Roles

6. Hugh Jackman

The Australian actor started his career playing normal, everyman roles, but it wasn’t too far in when he landed Wolverine. That was back then he weighed around 170 pounds. The first X-men movie was way back in 2000. Jackman would reprise Wolverine for seventeen years, transforming his adult physique in the process. The most notable moment was when Jackman played a prisoner in the screen adaptation of Les Misérables. For that role he had to start lean, then gain weight in a matter of weeks. This was, after already playing Wolverine for years, gaining weight to land somewhere around 200 pounds for the X-men role. The year he was in Les Mis, Jackman’s weight fluctuated by 44 pounds. After Les Mis, he shed about 15 pounds of body fat for Wolverine again.

5. Don Cheadle

For most of Cheadle’s successful career, he played waifish characters. Then, he landed the role of Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes in the Iron Man movies. Rhodes is Iron Man’s doppelgänger, a mash-up of Captain America and Iron Man. For that role, Cheadle had to gain some mass, especially since he replaced the original actor for the role, Terrance Howard. How much Cheadle gained, the actor is not saying, but he did put on some mass.
